Michael P. Oates is senior vice president of human resources for Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. (NYSE:FIS) and oversees all personnel-related functions, including recruitment, employee benefits and employee relations.

Before joining FIS, Oates was vice president of human resources for Florida Rock Industries, Inc., in Jacksonville, Fla. Oates has more than 16 years of experience in the human resources arena.  In addition to his work for Florida Rock Industries, he previously held positions as director of Labor Relations for CSX in Jacksonville and as a partner at the Richmond, Va., law firm of Hunton & Williams, where he specialized in labor and employment law. He also served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, where he was a deep sea diving and salvage officer aboard the USS Reclaimer (ARS 42).

Oates is a member of the Virginia Bar Association, a registered house counsel with the Florida Bar Association and a member of the board of directors for the Yates YMCA in Jacksonville.  He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctorate from the Washington and Lee University School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude and was named to the Order of the Coif.
